It has been a while since I did a project update on the 55 Bel Air. At this point though the car is done and on the road again. There are still some small bugs to work out and some final detailing for the upcoming indoor show season, but the car my grandparents have owned for 46 years is back on the road from its 10+ years of sitting in the corner of the garage. Here is links to all of the previous posts to see the restoration from start to finish.

I absolutely love the old school look of that engine. Very appropriate.

Wow, that looks amazing. How many finished* project pics do you ever see around here, let alone those that look that good? I don’t mean to say no one finishes anything, but damn, that’s a proper resto. Well done.
*you know, as finished as anything like that ever is.

That’s freaking gorgeous! You guys nailed the stance, and I love the wheel and tire choice.

A beat tip old example of these passed me on the road over the weekend. It so nice to see what one looks like fully restored.

Honestly, you built it exactly the way I would. (except I probably would’ve painted it black, but it looks so good in that blue too)

Thanks! The stance and wheels are part of the identity of the car. Its had the same wheels and stance for 40 years.

I’d order my tri 5 just like that. Well maybe as a Nomad.

Thanks, yeah when we came across the all chromed tri power we knew it had to go into the 55. The motor really move as well. Its one of the quickest classic cars we have ever had in the garage.

The color combo is why its been the family so long, lol. In the 70's my grandpa was flipping tri fives at a high rate as they were easy money makers. Most were red/white, yellow/white, black/white. This was the only blue and white 55 and my grandmother loved it and said this one wasn't going to be flipped.

I wouldn't mind this exact car but in a convertible. Im not a huge Nomad fan, but I give the guys who restore them huge respect as they are so much more expensive to restore.

Perfection! Even the wheels, being such a classic design with the classic rubber - love it. Excellent work. You can work on my 70’ Camaro any day :)

My god that’s beautiful. Thank you for putting/keeping appropriate wheels on it. Every tri-5 Chevy I see has massive chrome abominations, so this is a breath of fresh air.

Stunning! Perfect color combo, stance, wheels...
I’ve never seen that air filter combo - looks like solar panels? Love the tri-carb setup!

The air cleaners are spark arrestor units off a vintage boat.

Thanks, and yeah you cant beat a classic 8" Corvette Rally’s on a classic Chevy.

Nice. 265 or 283?
![]() 11/24/2018 at 22:00 |

327 actually. its a 65 327 that's built. the car is a factory v8 car though.

That Offy setup is pretty cool. Never been a fan of shoebox Chevys but I dig yours. The rally wheels are perfect on that car.
![]() 11/24/2018 at 22:08 |

thanks, yeah the rally’s look good and have been on the car for 40+ years. My grandpa is thinking of getting another set of something to run for awhile and change it up, but then he looks at the car and reconsiders, lol

Grandpa
: “You know, I like the look of those really big wheels - I think I read somewhere they’re called donks?”

yeah no, I have a set of 14 inch American racing torque thrusts I picked up for my camaro but never used. We thought of sticking those. I cant stand anything over a 17
